MS - Sustainability & Sustainable Engineering

 What is Sustainability?

Sustainable construction/development is construction/development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations to meeting their own.

WHERE WE APPLY SUSTAINABLE ENGINEERING

We apply the principles of sustainable engineering to

-Buildings and Structural Engineering

-Roads and Pavement Engineering

-Water Conservation and Management

-Drainage Design

-Power Generation and Supply (Solar, Wind and Mini-hydropower)

-Use of appropriate technology and materials

Our Promise:

We recognize that it is time for Engineers to play their rightful role in the eradication of poverty and hunger and facilitation of sustainable development, appropriate technology, beneficial infrastructure, and social change.

Our People

Our Engineers have lived and worked in over 25 countries and all climates, in advanced and developing countries, in very rich and very devastated post conflict countries and have a developed an appreciation for the need for international sustainable development engineering, creating jobs and improving livelihoods.

What we do:

We adapt the design to the environment and not the environment to the design.

We know that one size does not fit all and that sometimes the optimal solution is the most plain, cost effective and sensible one, not the one on a Design Manual.

Why we do it

To us, Sustainable Engineering is not a fancy term but an ethical and professional obligation to our Clients, ourselves and this beautiful fragile planet we all call home.

Example:

Buildings can be engineered to increase natural lighting and reduce the need for electrical lighting, to be energy efficient, toilets to conserve water and construction materials used may be recycle-able, solar energy used for heating, lighting and cooling,

energy management systems for large offices, terminal buildings and hotels..

we are taking small steps in the right direction in the journey of a thousand miles---

Actual Sustainable Engineered solutions:

-Use of Partial Subbase Replacement to treat existing ground in situ and reduce excavation and disposal/dumping in large pavement works

-Use of lime to stabilize and improvement soils

-Use of lime (as gauge mortar) in tropical buildings in rural development to reduce costs and generate local industry

- Use of PFA in Concrete Pavements
